The Wright Stuff: Best Practices for University-Foundation Sponsor Relations

Join us at the AUTM 2015 Eastern Region Meeting!

Is your tech transfer office dealing with terms and conditions of foundation IP policies that materially affect your licensing practices and finances?  Are foundations dictating terms in agreements, or seeking approval rights to agreements?

I’ll be hosting a session at the AUTM 2015 Eastern Region Meeting in Raleigh on September 1, 2015. Joining me will be the Michael Straightiff, Director of the University of Virginia Licensing & Ventures Group, and Meredith Haupt, Senior Associate Director of Research Partnerships at the Michael J. Fox Foundation. We’ll be drawing on our experience negotiating IP and royalty provisions in foundation-sponsored research agreements and licensing agreements that incorporate IP developed with foundation funding. We’ll summarize foundation practices and review a case study to help determine best practices for our profession. Particular emphasis will be placed on intellectual property and royalty obligations, and the interests and potential conflicts of university administrators, faculty inventors, technology licensing officers, and research foundations.

This topic will be of interest to licensing professionals and sponsored research administrators as we determine the best paths to navigate intellectual property provisions in research endeavors sponsored by private foundations.

Please join me in Raleigh for this and other outstanding workshops!
