On behalf of the AUTM Annual Meeting Program Committee, I am very excited to announce the addition of a session on a topical subject – the session is titled:    Closing the Deal in Academic-Industry Collaborations: Strategic Approaches to Partnering and will be held on Tuesday, February 24, from 1:30 to 3:00 PM at the Cellestin Ballroom F.

The impetus for this session came from a long felt need not only from academia but also from industry as well to understand what the other’s expectations are in terms of exploring a collaboration.

During this session, moderated by Pete Pellerito from BIO, small and medium sized biotechs will evaluate various models of their university-industry collaborations including traditional licensing engagements as well as non-traditional areas such as collaborative research, clinical trials, etc.  The panelists will also discuss practical tips for engaging with industry in both traditional licensing discussions and in approaching new models of engagement. Finally, the panelists will discuss how to best use of industry events like the BIO International Convention to achieve tech transfer objectives. The session will include leaders from small and medium sized biotech and pharmaceutical companies who are also looking forward to connecting with AUTM members afterwards.

Details on the panelists and the session are given below. I would like to thank the moderator and all the participants of the panel. A special word of thanks also goes out to Roy Zwahlen of BIO as well as the BIO organisation for their help in making this session a reality. Make sure you come, attend and be part of what promises to be a very stimulating discussion. Hope to see you all in New Orleans!
