2015 Board Election/ MAKE SURE YOU VOTE!

By Robin Rasor posted 12-10-2014 11:30

The election that started last week gives all AUTM members the opportunity to select future Board members based not only on their past volunteer activities on specific committees, but also based on their entire body of professional expertise, strategic abilities and inter-personal communication skills.

I am pleased to recommend two people with whom I have worked and known for many years: Rich Chylla, Executive Director at Michigan State and Doug Hockstad, Director at University of Arizona.

An inventor himself, Rich brings strong international industry and academic knowledge that is especially important now as we need to develop stronger relationships with our industrial partners.  While at BASF, Rich was a Global Strategy Director for one of their business units and while at the University of Michigan, took a leadership role in our strategic planning process as well as leading significant growth in our tech transfer successes in the College of Engineering.  Rich’s excellent communications skills and professional expertise made him a perfect fit for AUTM’s professional development endeavors in Chile and as a speaker at the upcoming Annual Meeting on “TTO Turnarounds.”

As for Doug, many of you already know him as a gregarious and tireless proponent for software technology transfer – leading Michigan to be one of the first  universities to work with Apple to develop and release apps in a wide variety of areas.  Doug has also participated in AUTM’s Annual Meeting and Software Course planning committees as well as being a speaker at the software SIG and other workshops.  While at Michigan, Doug served on our executive management team, worked with Rich on strategic planning and was a spectacular ambassador for our office both on campus and to our outside stakeholders.  In 2013, Doug took his considerable skills to the University of Arizona to participate in the reengineering and rebuilding of technology transfer there.

Whether or not you cast your vote for Rich and Doug, I urge you to read the background and position statements for all the candidates for the 2015 AUTM Board (https://www.autm.net/Call_for_2015_Board_Nominations/14536.htm) and participate in the future of AUTM by casting your vote and encouraging other AUTM members in your office and elsewhere to also review the candidates and vote.
