Hi all--
I want to make everyone aware of a new AUTM course that will be taught alongside the TOOLS course. For the first time AUTM is providing content and training specifically for small offices. The idea for the "Successful Practices in Small Technology Transfer Offices" course was hatched last year when a few of us got together and noticed that while the content at the Annual Meeting was great, quite a few of the approaches discussed were hard to execute with limited resources and small staffs.
We've set out to provide a very different experience. The sessions are intended to be experiential with faculty that understand what it's like to do more with less (or sometimes what feels like nothing at all). We'll share ideas that just work, ones that have been tried and failed, and look to the group to share the same.
Also different, the course is relatively inexpensive ($295) and starts at 1pm on Wednesday, 23 October and ends at 3pm on Thursday, 24 October. Why? Since the course is centrally located in Dallas it should be possible for most attendees to arrive in Dallas on Wednesday in time for the start and leave early enough in the afternoon to be back home that evening. That means only one overnight which is sweet, sweet music to resource constrained small offices. See! We're thinking about small offices at every step of the way.
So come and share what works with colleagues who understand the constraints you work under every day. And if you're in a larger office...well you probably don't have enough time, money, or resources either. Come learn how Lean tech transfer is done.
Since this is a new course, early registrations do help show that this topic is meeting the needs of the members. The program committee (Joe Janda [Portland State], Mike Rondelli [San Diego State], and I thank you.
Oh, and if you have a great idea for a topic and want to get involved, give a shout. Since we're small and nimble we might find a way to put it in the agenda.
Cheers!
Marc
