The technology transfer profession continues to grow
globally. Many newly energized and
emerging economies have, or will, develop policies, initiatives and programs to
support and leverage their growing science and technology capabilities.
For the past two years, AUTM conducted a pilot program to
establish a license-based business relationship with a few experienced AUTM members
who had launched their own consulting practices. These efforts were focused upon professional
development needs outside North America.
Today, AUTM launches its Professional Development Services program
(PDS) which incorporates experiences from the pilot program and responds to the
growing global need for high-quality professional development in academic
technology transfer. With this effort,
AUTM’s value as a provider of education and the value of AUTM membership are
coupled.
The program is open to all interested AUTM members.
There are two ways to participate:
As a Licensee.
The Professional Development Services Agreement grants a
2-year, revocable, non-transferable, non-exclusive license for the rights to
use AUTM’s trademarks in connection with the services (professional
development) delivered. Sublicensing
rights are not granted.
AUTM expects (1) licensees to actively market their relevant
expertise and the AUTM brand, and (2) to respond to direct requests from
AUTM.
A licensee may be an individual or an organization.
As with any license, there are minimum royalties.

We want active individuals or organizations that will
perform at the highest standard while representing AUTM.
As an Expert.
AUTM is often asked to formalize its collaboration with a government
or organization interested in AUTM’s experience, advice and collaboration. In some cases, AUTM is asked to develop an
MOU that includes a professional development plan and curriculum.
We have many AUTM member volunteers who have provided their
expertise and experiences for our courses, webinars, and workshops at
meetings. AUTM maintains a list of these
past volunteers, which provides us a good idea of who might
be interested in serving as an expert “faculty” for a specialized course. These courses are delivered under an MOU
between AUTM and the external partner organization.
For such courses, AUTM will design a curriculum and secure
expert faculty to deliver the content.
AUTM will use its Professional Services Agreement for each
speaker.
