If any members and/or their significant others are into motorcycle riding a day or two before or after the conference, think about joining Heller's Angels for one of their annual pilgrimages. We usually start planning a trip in the area of the conference around the first of the year. We spec out a site of interest to ride to and map out an itinerary. We identify a motorcycle rental agency to obtain a group discount and have a fun-filled day or two riding in the countryside. In the past, we've rode in Arizona, Florida, California, and Colorado (a regional conference).
This year a small group of 6 bikes will be riding to Natchez 3/16-3/17. The plan is to visit a plantation or two on the historic Mississippi River Road, garb a refreshing lunch at some non-descript river side crab shack or introduce everyone to the regional favorite 'boudin', and motor to Natchez, MS for the night. We plan on staying in the very historic Eola Hotel in downtown Natchez, have a leisurely dinner in Natchez and ride back to New Orleans on Wednesday morning through the Homochitto National Forest. If all goes well, the riders will be back in New Orleans by 3 PM Wednesday. Overall, it should be about a 320-340 mile round trip. Big bikes with big, comfortable seats are the way to go, think Harley Davidson Road King here.
If you're at all interested, even if you think that you might want to ride on the back of some one's bike, stop anyone you might see with a 'Heller's Angels' tag on their AUTM Conference ID. While it may be too late for this year (or maybe not if you were to respond to me promptly), we could include you next year's plans or give you this year's trip particulars.
It's a fun trip with a great group of bikers who happen to be AUTM members. Come join us!
