In our communications group at AUTM, we’re always looking at ways to add helpful features to our website for our members. We all know that technology transfer is a rapidly growing field and that new people are joining the profession all the time. Newbies (and we’ve all been there ourselves) are grateful for the willingness of more experienced AUTM members to network, answer questions, provide advice, etc. Here’s another way we can all help each other – the AUTM Bookshelf.
AUTM has partnered with
Powell’s Books, an independent bookstore in the Pacific Northwest with a big online presence. Through this partnership, when AUTM members enter Powell’s website from the AUTM website and make a purchase, AUTM receives a small commission. This helps AUTM provide great programming to members. The cool part, though, is that we can create an AUTM bookshelf at our website to recommend technology transfer books to other members. This should help both newbies and experienced members keep up on what’s recommended in our field. Know that purchases you make through this arrangement will not cost you more. An item purchased by going directly to Powell's or by going through the AUTM website will cost the same.
A small group of communications volunteers has started a very short list of recommended books to launch the
AUTM bookshelf, and we’re asking all of you to help us build this list. Please reply to this blog with suggestions, and some reasons why you are suggesting certain books. Also please let us know how else you think we can use this – we can post book reviews, maybe form a book club? Let us know what you’re thinking.
And please remember that our partnership extends to all books purchased from the Powell’s website, not just those related to technology transfer. So if you were going to order the latest vampire novel from Powell’s in any case, please think of starting that order through the
AUTM website.
We’re excited about where this can go, and I hope you are, too!
