As some of you may know, my wife and I have moved to
Northern California and have spent the summer building my house with a group of
my son’s friends. As we were tearing down the old house, I found a book wedged
behind a wall. I finally found time to read it. It is fascinating I have
decided to share it here through a series of posts to this e-group and my AUTM Blog
Comments on Sun Tzu’s The
Art of War, edited by Dick Cooledge, Comptche Press, 1927.
Sun Tzu: “Military
action is important to the nation – it is the ground of death and life, the
path of survival and destruction so it is imperative to examine it.”
Raven: “All life involves
struggle. When Bear eats Salmon, there is a winner and a loser. How much better
it is to be the winner. You can win by being in the right place at the right
time. How much better it is to know where and when you should be there so you
do not waste your time.”
Poor Richard: “The
wise business person understands the landscape of the market as a traveler understands
a map. They look at it to determine the obstacles on the way to market success.
For each obstacle they identify, they think whether they should skirt around it
or overcome it. To do that requires both forethought and friends.”
